A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for south east Queensland, kicking off a very wet weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology released a warning Friday afternoon of severe thunderstorms in Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Emerald, Kingaroy, Noosa and Blackwater.
These areas were warned to prepare for large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Jess Carey said Friday night's storms will be similar to what was experienced Thursday night, with rainfall expected from Gulf country all the way down to the south east.
"As the trough moves through, like we saw yesterday, there are prime conditions for storms tonight, and they will potentially be severe," he said.
"When we talk about severe, we are looking at hail greater than 2cm in diameter, winds greater than 90km per hour, or rainfall conducive to flash flooding,
"We are expecting at least one of those three variables to occur."
South east Queensland can also expect more wet weather Saturday, threatening interruptions to the Gabba Test match.
"We do have a south easterly change tomorrow, depending on the time of that change we could have even more significant storms," Mr Carey said.
On Sunday, storms will move north to Gympie, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Maryborough, with a smaller chance of showers in Brisbane.
The storms are the result of a trough moving through inland Queensland.
"The trough is moving through inland parts of Queensland, and the leading edge of that trough are quite humid, hot conditions, lots of instability and that is what is driving a lot of this weather," Mr Carey said.
Mr Carey said the storms coming through are nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.
"Very generic, very vanilla for this time of year," Mr Carey said.
"We know we get big storms in november, it's really the peak of our storm season in Brisbane."
